COL Gapinski, a native of Burlington, WI, was commissioned from the United States Army Officer Candidate School (OCS), Fort Benning, Georgia, in 1999. He began his military career as a Fire Direction Officer (FDO) and Platoon Leader for BTRY B, 1-126 FA, Oak Creek, WI. In 2004, he commanded BTRY A, 1-126 FA, Whitewater, WI. In 2005, he deployed to Iraq to support OIF and the Combined Joint Special Operations Task Force Arabian Peninsula (CJSOTF-AP) as the Commander of BTRY C, 1-120 FA. In 2008, he deployed to Afghanistan to support OEF and served as Deputy Team Chief of the Kunar Provincial Police Mentor Team (PMT) to the Regional Police Advisory Command Central. Upon return in 2010, he was assigned as the S3 and XO for the 1-121 FA (HIMARS), Milwaukee, WI. In 2014, he deployed to Afghanistan to support OEF, ORS, and OFS as the HIMARS Liaison Officer in Charge (OIC) to the Headquarters Joint Task Force 94-7.1. He commanded the "Dark Skies" Battalion, 1-121 FA (HIMARS) from November 2017 to July 2019. From 2018-2019, while deployed, he commanded the 1-121 FA (HIMARS) and two additional Field Artillery BTRYs in the United Arab Emirates to support OSS, OIR, ORS, and Task Force Spartan. He is currently assigned as the Commander of the 426th Regiment (RTI), Fort McCoy, WI. In NOV 2023, he will assume command of the 157th Manuever Enhancement Brigade (MEB), Milwaukee, WI. His military education includes graduation from the US Army War College (resident). He is the Lead Systems Administrator for the Robotic Automation Process Team at Harley-Davidson Motorcycle Company in Milwaukee, WI. He, his wife Sarah, and sons Casen (8) and Kaden (5) reside in Caledonia, WI.
