Michael D. Grice enlisted in the Marine Corps reserves in 1984. Upon graduating from MCRD San Diego, he served in Battery P, 5/14 in Aurora, Colorado as a Field Artillery Fire Controlman and Operations Chief, ultimately obtaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was with that battery until he graduated from the University of Colorado in 1992 and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant. Grice’s first assignments as an officer were in a dual system battery that fielded both the M101Al 105mm and the M198 155mm towed howitzers. At the battery level, he served as a Forward Observer, Fire Direction Officer, Battery Executive, and Commanding Officer. As a staff officer, he served at the artillery battalion and regimental level, where he was responsible for testing the M777 155mm howitzer prior to its acceptance for service with the Marine Corps and Army, in addition to transitioning a towed cannon battalion to the High Mobility Artillery Rocket System. As a Captain he was a Gunnery Instructor at Fort Sill, where he was responsible for significantly revising the FM6-40, Field Artillery Cannon Gunnery. He also served as the Commanding Officer of First Air Naval Gunfire Liaison Company (ANGLICO), a Marine Corps unit that specializes in all facets and types of fire support, including mortars, artillery, naval surface-fires, and close air support. Grice has commanded combat units in both Iraq and Afghanistan where he was decorated for heroism, leadership, and meritorious service. During his career he deployed five times in support of the Global War on Terror, Operation Iraqi Freedom, and Operation Enduring Freedom. Mike transitioned to civilian service from a 27-year career in uniform on 1 January 2012. . He was very active in the veteran related nonprofit space. He served as the Chief Operating Officer for two nonprofits, the MedTech and BioTech Veterans Program (MVPVets) and PsychArmor, helping them both become successful organizations. Mike serves as the Chief Operating Officer at Boost Oxygen, which is the nation's premier supplemental oxygen company. Mike is a recognized expert in the area of leadership and executive decision-making and has been an invited speaker or guest lecturer at multiple Universities. From 2011 – 2015 he served as a Fellow at the The Lejeune Leadership Institute which is organized to advance the study and practice of leadership excellence within the Marine Corps University by focusing on leader development founded upon Marine Corps' Values for Marines and Civilian Marines. He is very active with the Boy Scouts of America, serving as an Assistant Scoutmaster since 2011. He has also served on the Marine Executive Board of Directors since 2012 and several other veteran related nonprofit boards of directors. Mike has been a constant member of the US Field Artillery Association since 1993 and founded and continues to support the LtCol Michael Grice Writing Award through USFAA. Grice has authored two books, "Orders to Nowhere", about his transition from a career in the Marines back to the civilian world, and “On Gunnery”, the most authoritative text on manual and automated gunnery.
